My husband is very busy with a work project, so I am 99.9% certain he won't be reading this. I think it is safe to ask you for input on his Father's Day gift. (Hey, people have posted weirder polls on their blogs!) I'm getting him a mug, as tradition dictates, but am torn between these pictures, and a black or a white mug. (This is last year's 'mug shot'.) (And in the unlikely event you are reading this, dear husband, feel free to vote!) 1. Maia at Rye Beach 2. Maia at Rye Beach 3. I once heard a quote, 'sex is like oxygen, you don't think about it unless you aren't getting any.' This post is about neither sex nor oxygen, but two other resources I used to take for granted and am now obsessing over. 1. Sleep: I am still not getting much. Maia is actually a good sleeper for her age. She sleeps for at least 11 hours a night, usually in a row. But she's an early riser and will wake up by 5 AM no matter what time she goes to bed. So when she goes through a teething phase and gets less sleep, I never get to catch up on my own. I am now suffering from a sleep debt ...

After several nights of little sleep, I'm staggering through the day on caffeine and protein powder. I'd love to know how intelligent design theory explains the teething process. When I am this tired, so tired I can't drive safely, get irritable over the smallest thing, can barely see straight, want to lie in bed and cry, I am tempted to write the day off as a waste. A shocking thing to notice myself thinking! Today is not a waste; here's why: - It is 75o and sunny, and I can sit in the sun and enjoy the warmth. - I can get all the housekeeping tasks done so that tomorrow (when I am better rested because it'll be Bodhi's turn to get up ...

I'm posting short video clips to deal with my disgruntlement over not being able to post photos. Here's one from a year ago. We took this a few hours before we left Addis for home. More coming....

This evening a gray heron wandered along the side of the river behind our house. I got a few pictures of it before it dove under water. But I still cannot upload photos. Still won't waste/spend the time to figure out how to ftp. Still cannot get a crossout to show up on the homepage. Still cannot participate in Wordless Wednesday. Do a Google image search on 'gray heron' and consider your favorite my Wordless Wednesday posting for this week. And buy stock in blogspot.

I cannot upload photos, but I can upload video clips! It's 1 minute and 30 seconds long, and won't win any awards, but we like it.

Really. It's not. Maybe that's why it is my favorite form of exercise. Generally I am very good at not worrying about what anyone else is doing at yoga class. I work at my own edge, happy with my own progress. ScorpionBut there's one big exception to my no envy/no pride/no race-to-become-a-human-pretzel approach to yoga class: inversions. I've struggled with headstands and forearm stands for years. I can do a headstand against the wall, and a forearm stand only if someone lifts me into it, but I cannot do either on my own. Year after year, I watched new people join my yoga studio, learn to do perfect headstands, then forearm stands, while I balanced myself against ...

Last Wednesday, in honor of spring, many people posted close-ups of flowers for Wordless Wednesday. That's not what spring looks like where I am so I prepared a series of photographs showing the progressive melting of the ice on the river in our backyard, surrounded by trees with barely-visible buds. However, Wordpress kept hounding me to upgrade to its latest version; and upgrade we did. Now every time I try to upload photos I get an error message telling me to try again later. This is just one of the many bugs/features in the new Wordpress (another being that I cannot figure out how to cross out text). The old version of Wordpress worked just fine; why the continual ...
