I’ve collected some of my favorite quotes about peace for this year’s Blog Blast for Peace. If you have any of your own quotes to share, please leave a comment.
“It is isolation that is critical to war. You cannot be abusive when you realize your connectedness.”
-David Kadlec
“If you have a gun, you can go out and shoot one, two, three, five people. But if you have an ideology and stick to it, thinking it is the absolute truth, you can kill millions.”
-Thich Nhat Hanh
“War, at first, is the hope that one will be better off; next, the expectation that the other fellow will be worse off; then, the satisfaction that he isnât any better off; and, finally, the surprise at everyoneâs being worse off.”
-Karl Kraus
“The non-violent approach does not immediately change the heart of the oppressor. It first does something to the hearts and souls of those committed to it. It gives them new self-respect; it calls up resources of strength and courage they did not know they had. Finally, it reaches the opponent and so stirs his conscience that reconciliation becomes a reality.”
-Martin Luther King Jr.
“There is no religion without love, and people may talk as much as they like about their religion, but if it doesnât teach them to be good and kind to man and beast, it is all a sham.”
-Anna Sewell
It was early in the Vietnam War and an American platoon was hunkered down in some rice paddies, in the heat of a firefight with the Vietcong. Suddenly a line of six monks started walking along the elevated berms that separated paddy from paddy. Perfectly calm and poised, the monks walked directly toward the line of fire. âThey didnât look right, they didnât look left. They walked straight through,â recalls one of the American soldiers. âIt was really strange because nobody shot at âem. And after they walked over the berm, suddenly all the fight was out of me. It just didnât feel like I wanted to do this any more, at least not that day. It must have been that way for everybody, because everybody quit. We just stopped fighting.â
-Quoted in Daniel Golemanâs Emotional Intelligence
” I wish to let my love of peace outweigh my distaste for war.”
-Raven
“How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world.” -Anne Frank

I like your Peace Globe and quotes very much. Peace to you and all you love.
Very nice quotes !
I am from the “Make Love not War” generation I hoped some more progress would have been done in the last 40 years !
I love that quote by Anne Frank, especially since my eldest just studied her. I will be sure to share the quote!
A lovely post as always. I feel pretty honored to be quoted among such lofty company. My head is swelling. Peace.
Thought you should know that your link at Mimi’s doesn’t lead to this post. Leads to The beautiful photo of your husband and daughter.

“Traveling through the world produces
a marvelous clarity in the judgment of
men. We are all of us confined and
enclosed within ourselves, and see no
farther than the end of our nose. This
great world is a mirror where we must
see ourselves in order to know
ourselves. There are so many different
tempers, so many different points of
view, judgments, opinions, laws and
customs to teach us to judge wisely
on our own, and to teach our judgment
to recognize its imperfection and natural
weakness.”
-Michel de Montaigne
This is a beautiful peace post. Thank you for sharing this wisdom and these words.
I pray we made a difference today and will continue to do so.
